Pioneers track and field opens up indoor season Saturday in Indy

Indianapolis, Ind. – The Transylvania Track & Field team opened the 2018 indoor season by participating in the University of Indianapolis's season-opening meet on Saturday afternoon.

Leading the way for Transylvania was junior Rian Boelter, who claimed first place in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.17 meters. Boelter also tied for fifth in the high jump event with a jump of 1.57 meters.

Competing in their first meet as Pioneers, the duo of freshmen Taylor Allen and Maya Jazdzewski turned in strong performances on Saturday. Allen captured a third-place finish in the women's 60-meter hurdles event with a time of 10.21 seconds, while Jazdzewski placed fourth in the women's long jump with a final jump of 4.72 meters.

Not to be outdone by the newcomers, sophomore Lauren Wunsch finished third in the women's weight throw with a final throw of 10.77 meters, and senior Olivia Kee placed fourth in the women's 60-meter hurdles event in 10.23 seconds.

On the men's side, Transylvania freshman Jordan Upton earned a fourth-place finish in the men's triple jump event with a mark of 12.50 meters, while fellow freshman Jacob Burnam finished the men's mile event in a time of 4:49 to earn a sixth-place finish.

Up next, the Pioneers will return to the University of Indianapolis next Friday, December 7 for the Winter Break Meet. The meet is set for a 3 p.m. start.
