Allen and Burnam pace Pioneers track and field with record-setting days at Depauw Invitational

Taylor Allen record

Greencastle, Ind. – Four Pioneers set new school records as the Transylvania track and field team continued its journey through the outdoor season with a strong showing at the DePauw Invitational at Blackstock Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

"I was very pleased with the results we posted today," remarked Transylvania head coach Taylor Throckmorton. "It's still very early in the season and to see the times and distances that we're already posting is confirmation that our training is going well. We're excited to see what can happen with a few more weeks of training."

Jacob Burnam got things started for the Pioneers, capturing the victory in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:05.37 minutes, a new Transylvania record.

"With four school records set today, there was obviously a number of highlights, but I was very impressed by Jacob winning the 1500 in a loaded field in his first collegiate race at that distance," said Throckmorton. "He was very patient and made a move with about 500 meters left that put him in a great position to control the rest of the race.

Also claiming a first-place finish for the pioneers was Taylor Allen, who set the Transylvania school record in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 59.97 seconds.

"Taylor followed up Jacob with a big win in the 400," remarked Throckmorton. "We had talked about getting out a bit quicker and trusting the training in the last 100 meters and she executed that very well today.

In field competition, Gunnar Eaton took home third place in the men's hammer throw with a final throw of 48.45 meters while Rian Boelter finished second in the women's triple jump event with a jump of 10.56 meters. Eaton and Boelter each set Transylvania school records with their performances on Saturday.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, April 12 as they travel to Danville, Kentucky for the Centre Twilight meet. The meet is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start at Farris Stadium.
