Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania volleyball team will play 10 home matches at the Beck Center as part of a 28-game regular season schedule, the program announced Thursday in the release of its 2017 schedule.
The Pioneers will welcome Emory, Bowdoin, and Heidelberg to the Beck Center on Friday and Saturday, September 22-23, for the 2017 Transy Invitational nonconference tournament.
That tournament will serve as the final tune-up before conference play, as Transylvania will face Rose-Hulman Hanover, Bluffton, Defiance, and Mt. St. Joseph at home this season.
As was the case in the 2016 season, the Pioneers will kick off their season with a series of challenging tournaments throughout the month of September, beginning with a trip to the Marietta College Invitational on September 1. Transylvania will face host Marietta College on Friday at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Saturday double-dose versus Oberlin and Hiram.
As the month continues, the Pioneers will continue sharpening up with a trip to the Kenyon College Invitational on September 8-9, followed by the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on September 15-16.
Those three tournaments precede the home opener on Tuesday, September 19 when the Pioneers play host to Kentucky rival Centre at 7:00 p.m. The midweek contest will set the stage for the Transy Invitational tournament.
After conference play is completed with an October 25 home match against Mt. St. Joseph, the Pioneers will venture to St. Louis, Missouri to participate in the season-ending Washington University Invitational, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. The Pios will wage back-to-back contest versus Washington U. and Nebraskan Wesleyan on Friday, October 27, before finishing matters on October 28 against Depauw.
Transylvania is led by fourth-year head coach Kyle Walton and is coming off of a sixth-place finish in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. They return reigning freshman of the year, setter Hannah Talkers, and All-HCAC honorees, sophomore outside hitter Jordan Horne and senior libero Marissa Coutinho.
