Greenwood, Ind. – Transylvania sophomore setter Hannah Talkers has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for volleyball, the conference announced Monday.
Talkers, a sophomore from Villa Hills, Kentucky (Notre Dame Academy) captained an offense that levied a pair of impressive wins last week against HCAC opponents to grow Transylvania's season-best win streak to seven games.
Ranking second in the HCAC in both hitting percentage (.320) and digs per set (9.09), Talkers guided the Pioneers offense to 3-0 victories against Defiance and Franklin last week. Talkers totaled 60 assists over the two matches, including a 29 assist, 14 dig, eight kill, and three ace performance in a road victory against Franklin on October 17.
In Saturday's 3-0 win against Defiance at home, the Pioneers set a single-match record for hitting percentage (.447) with Talkers leading a ferocious offensive attack that outscored Defiance 25-21, 25-16, 25-5 over three dominant sets. With Talkers leading the way, the Pioneers registered set-by-set team hitting percentages of .394, .429, and .542 against Defiance.
In Saturday's victory, Talkers again responded with an all-around contribution of a match-high 31 assists, seven digs, four kills, and an ace.
The player of the week award is the first of the 2017 season for the sophomore and the second of her career.
Talkers and the Pioneers have one last HCAC match remaining as they host Mount St. Joseph University this Wednesday, October 25 at the Beck Center at 7:00 p.m.
