Lexington, Ky. – Following a successful 2017 campaign that ended in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament semifinals, the Transylvania volleyball team has strengthened its ranks with another stellar class for the upcoming 2018 season.
First-year Transylvania head coach Amy Barmore revealed the Pioneers' incoming recruiting class on Wednesday, welcoming the class of 2022 to Lexington.
These two student-athletes will join a program on the rise that posted a 20-10 overall record in 2017, including a 7-2 run through HCAC play.
“This recruiting class adds to our depth within the program,” remarked Barmore. “We will have everyone back from last season except our libero and these kids will add healthy competition and positive energy to our gym. I am excited to get them on campus and to get the 2018 season going.”
The following players will be joining the program in the fall:
Name: Chelan Beasley
Hometown/High School: Union, Ky. / Randall Cooper High School
High School Honors: Regional All-tournament team, All-Opponents team, Kentucky Coaches Association First-Team
Coach Barmore on Beasley: "Chelan is athletic, smart and a versatile hitter who will be able to score from anywhere on the court. With her versatility and her work ethic, she will be a powerhouse and will make everyone around her better.”
Name: Lauren Herbert
Hometown/High School: Florence, Ky. / Ryle High School
Club Team: NKJV
High School Honors: Team Captain, Best Offense Award, Max Preps Player of the Game Award
Barmore on Herbert: "Lauren is a tremendous kid with the ability to do almost anything. Her primary position is setter but she can play any position on the court. With Lauren's team player attitude, she is going to be able to contribute to our program.”
