Powell, Ohio – Select members of the Transylvania cross country team extended their fall with one final meet at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regionals on Saturday afternoon.
Competing against the best of the best in the Great Lakes region and numerous Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference runners, the Pioneers afforded stout performances from junior Rebecca Facktor on the women's side and freshman Darrell Corn from the Transylvania men's representatives.
Facktor led the Transylvania women in the 5K race with a time of 25:58.3 to finish off her junior cross country campaign with an encouraging conclusion. Corn completed his memorable freshman season with a time of 29:36.3 in the men's 8K race.
""Overall, we had a really strong day today," commented Transylvania cross country head coach Taylor Throckmorton. "I was most impressed by Rebecca Facktor. She had surgery this past summer and has only raced a few times and still ran an incredible race. A lot of people in her situation would not have the confidence she had to go and attack the course and run fearlessly like she did."
Saturday's competition also wrapped up the first year for Transy cross country under Throckmorton, who left the competition enthused with strides made by his inspired roster.
"With a team of mostly freshmen, there are always some question marks going into big championship meets about how they will handle themselves on a bigger stage," Throckmorton stated. "Overall, our first years were very professional and took care of business and didn't let the big stage get the better of them. I'm very optimistic about how these men and women will develop over their careers."
Throckmorton's next assignment will see the first-year head coach shift his attention to the Transylvania track and field team, whose season begins in late January.
