Centre tops Transy in field hockey finale

Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. - Centre broke a scoreless tie with three second-half goals Friday and defeated Transylvania 3-0 in the Pioneers' regular season field hockey finale at Hall Field.

The Pioneers complete regular season play with a 2-14 record, 0-8 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Colonels are 8-7, 5-3 SAA.

Transy held Centre off the scoreboard for the first 46 minutes of the game. The visitors took the lead at the 46:41 mark and made it 2-0 12 minutes later. The final goal of the game came in the 61st minute.

Centre had 16 shots to four for the Pioneers and the visitors also had a 9-3 edge in penalty corners. Transy keeper Sara Aschbacher had eight saves for the Pioneers.

Sara Clark led the Transy offense with two shots.

The Pioneers will compete in the SAA tournament next Friday in Memphis. Regular season champion Rhodes will serve as host for the event. Transy, the No. 5 seed, will face Sewanee, the fourth seed, at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Friday with the winner meeting Rhodes on Saturday an noon. The SAA Championship game will be held on Sunday at noon.
