Women's Basketball

Pioneers dominate Rose-Hulman Engineers, 85-42

Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Pioneers' women's basketball team steals the game from Rose-Hulam early and never looked back, winning the game 85-42. Though many Pioneers stepped up great this game, including four players scoring in double-digits, the real story of the game was the Pioneers causing 31 turnovers while stealing the ball 14 times.

There was no question from the jump that the Pioneers were focused and came to win the game. After the victory Head Coach Greg Todd noted, "We came very focused to play today…and were pleased with our defensive pressure."

The Pioneers had great production from their defense as they played a high tempo in-your-face press defense that caused a staggering 6 turnovers with 4 steals in the first six minutes. The Pioneers would go from here on a 31-5 run to open the first ten minutes. This type of play was indicative of the whole game that was severely lopsided in favor of the Pioneers and ended with the Pioneers winning 85-42.

Leading the way for the Pioneers on this run both defensively and offensively was senior guard Madisen Webb. Webb opened the game with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal all in the first half. Webb finished the game with 18 points, 5 boards and even tallied a block in her 27 minutes.

Webb was joined by junior guard Nicole Coffman on both ends with her leadership and game leading 4 steals. Coffman finished the night with 13 points and a block in a game high 28 minutes of action. Coffman is the Pioneers' and HCAC leading scorer this season averaging 21.0ppg while also ranking second in steals per game.

Also scoring in double digits this game was guard sophomore Katelyn Smith with 16 points and 4 rebounds and junior forward Alex Mckenzie who scored 11 points with 7 rebounds, just shy of her average 7.5 boards.

Having this many scorers perform highly led the Pioneers to open a lead early and never look back. Not only was the scoring shared but also the rebounding too. There were a total of six different players with at least 4 rebounds each to go along with the teams' 10 assists to only 8 turnovers.

This statistic made the coaching staff pleased, " We were pleased with our rebounding today and it is always a good sign for us to have more assists than turnovers," said Coach Todd.

This is especially true against a team that seemingly never turns the ball over, averaging a HCAC best 15.0 turnovers per game.

This was a great win helping the Pioneers lead the way atop the HCAC with a 4-1 record and 2-0 record in conference play.

The Pioneers lace up their shoes again and hit the hardwood Saturday, December 14th at 1p.m. when they take on Defiance College on the road.
