LEXINGTON, Ky.- Transylvania wrapped up its inaugural women's lacrosse season at Thomas Field Tuesday with a 20-1 win over Franklin College.
The Pioneers finish out the season at 5-6 while the Franklin Grizzlies post a 1-6 record.
Transy had a host of Pioneers in the scoring column with
Sky Spraker leading the way with five goals.
Aubrey Bausum contributed four scores, while
Lucy Meredith,
Rachel Harrison,
Caroline Mrowiec and
Jessica Bier all added two goals apiece.
Katie Jackel,
Victoria Keise and
Kayla Thurlow all netted one goal each.
"I couldn't be more proud of how our team competed this year," said head coach Haley Marvine. "We were a team that competed and played hard every time out and we improved as the year went on. This team really built a strong foundation for our program to build on in the coming years."
Transy dominated their opponent outshooting the Grizzles by a margin of 31-5. The Pioneers also picked up more ground balls in the contest by a count of 26-10.
Transy converted on seven of nine free-position shot attempts, and had a perfect 4-4 on clear attempts.
In the net for the Pioneers, and earning the win was
Lydia Shaughnessy, who snagged four saves in the contest, moving her to 4-6 this year.
Bausum led all scorers in the first year of the program with 65 total goals in just 11 games, finishing among the nation's leaders in goals per game. Harrison had the most ground balls for the Pioneers with 49 on the young season and Keise caused the most turnovers in her first year with 27.
Shaughnessy capped her season with 95 total saves. Transy outscored their opponents in its opening season, 138-135.
