Transylvania field hockey drops one-goal decision to Concordia-Wisconsin

Box Score

Sewanee, Tenn. – The Transylvania field hockey team was held off by the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, 1-0 at Puett Field on Sunday on the campus of the University of the South.

Transylvania fell to 4-9 overall, and 2-2 in Southern Athletic Association play after Sunday's conference result.

The lone goal of Sunday's match came late in the first half, as the Falcons' Sophia O'Connor was able to slip a shot by Transylvania junior goalie Allyson Benz for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal.

Besides the lone strike of the day, Benz was dependable in goal, procuring nine saves on the afternoon for Transylvania.

While the Pioneers were able to come up with their fair share of penalty corners, earning 12 to Concordia's 13, the Falcons defense snuffed out Transylvania's best opportunities inside the circle. Concordia manufactured 19 shots on the day compared to six for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers will remain in Sewanee for another day as they take on another SAA opponent in the Sewanee Tigers. Transylvania will square off with Sewanee at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time at Puett Field in a designated nonconference match in the first of two regular-season meetings between the two teams this season.
