Carlow and Wuest lead the way for Transylvania women's lacrosse at Franklin

Box Score

The Transylvania women's lacrosse team grew its season-high winning streak to seven games as the Pioneers amassed a 24-2 victory against the Franklin College Grizzlies Saturday afternoon at Faught Stadium.

Using another signature first-half explosion, the Pioneers outscored Franklin 16-1 in the first half to cruise to an efficient Saturday victory, moving to 9-1 on the year and 4-0 in Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference play. Franklin fell to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The Pioneers overwhelmed the Grizzlies from the opening draw, scoring two goals in the first minute and four goals in the first two and a half minutes before the Grizzlies could blink. Two of three opening goals came courtesy of junior midfielder Emma Oliver while senior attack Kate Winkelmeyer and sophomore attack Katie Smith added early goals.

With 2:27 remaining in the half, Transylvania had scored the first 15 goals of the day before the Grizzlies answered with their first score of the day.

The Pioneers finished the game with conviction, scoring the final six goals of the game to seal up the 24-2 win.

Smith led the Pioneers with four goals, adding an assist for her daily production.

Freshman attack Shelby Wuest had a standout all-around performance, totaling a hat-trick, four assists, nine draw controls, four caused turnovers, and two ground balls.

Freshman midfielder Salem Carlow registered a career-high four assists and matched a single-game career best with four goals in the win.

Oliver finished her day with a hat-trick while junior attack Alexis Rubin, and freshmen midfielders Rachel Johnston and Olivia Livingston each registered two goals apiece.

Transylvania is back in action on Wednesday, April 4 as they begin a four-game homestand with a 7:00 p.m. contest versus the Hanover College Panthers as the ORLC schedule continues.
