Box Score Bloomington, Ill. – The Transylvania women's tennis team continued its weekend trek through Illinois with a 9-0 win over the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans at the Evergreen Racquet Club on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Pioneers improve to 2-0 on the season while the Titans' record falls to 1-2 on the young season.
Porsche Robinson opened the day with a thrilling victory in the No. 1 singles matchup. The junior claimed a 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (12-10) win over Illinois Wesleyan's Alessia Girardin.
Another battle developed in the No. 5 singles match where Christina Duvall picked up a 6-0, 7-5 win over Bella Kiper.
In doubles play, the Transylvania duo of Alyssa Igyarto and Grace Gardner earned a hard-fought 8-7 (7-5) victory over the team of Rebecca Rochacz and Alessia Girardin from Illinois Wesleyan.
"We maintained and built upon the positive start to the weekend with another big win over a quality opponent today," remarked Transylvania coach Bill Carey. "The energy and enthusiasm we are playing with is impressive. We are playing at a high level, and it's been fun to watch."
The Pioneers will wrap up their trip to Illinois when they matchup against the Milikin University Big Blue tomorrow morning in Decatur. The match between the Pioneers and the Big Blue is set for a 10:00 a.m. start at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
