NCAA TOURNAMENT BRACKET

INDIANAPOLIS – The Transylvania women's tennis team will face the Moravian College (Pa.) Greyhounds in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia this Thursday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m.

The Pioneers clinched the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday with a 5-1 victory over Rose-Hulman in the conference tournament championship match to clinch the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

The first-round matchup and 42-team bracket was announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon, marking a return to the NCAA Tournament for the Pioneers, who clinched an NCAA berth in fall 2019 by winning their first of two consecutive conference tournament championships.

After having what would have been their first NCAA Tournament appearance in eight seasons last spring cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pioneers repeated as conference champions this weekend to officially certify their return to the NCAA postseason.

Transylvania carries a 9-1 overall record into the NCAA Tournament against Moravian, champions of the Landmark Conference. The Greyhounds went 7-0 in conference play and carry an overall record of 10-0 into the first round match. Moravian defeated Scranton, 5-4 in Sunday's Landmark championship match to capture the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

The winner of Thursday's first-round match will advance to face Wesleyan (Conn.) College, which earned a first-round bye in the Rome, Georgia regional. That second-round match will take place on Friday,  May 14 with the winner advancing to Saturday's third-round match against the second-round winner between Linfield College (Ore.) and Hope College (Mich.). The regional winner advances to the NCAA championship round finals in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 24-26.
