Lima, Ohio – Rhett Cox completed a meteoric rise in his first collegiate season to finish as the HCAC individual champion in Sunday's third and final round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's Men's Golf Championship at Hidden Creek Golf Course.

The freshman carded an even-par 72 in the third round of the HCAC Championships to finish at the top of the player leaderboard with a three-round total of 216, winning by two strokes over Rose-Hulman's Max Gogel and Thomas Butler, and his teammate Tyler Allred, who all captured a share of second place.

Cox became the fourth consecutive HCAC conference championship medalist from the Transylvania men's golf program and the first freshman among that four-man group to finish atop the championship leaderboard as the Campbellsville, Kentucky native earned HCAC Most Valuable Player and HCAC Newcomer of the Year honors for the 2020-21 men's golf season.

After trailing Transylvania by two strokes heading into Sunday's final round of play, Rose-Hulman overtook the Pioneers to win the conference championship with a three-round score of 876, winning by three strokes over the Pioneers, who turned in a three-round total of 879 to finish as the conference's team runner-up for the 2019 season.

The Engineers' team triumph ended a historic run of 13 consecutive conference titles by the Pioneers, which stood as the longest streak across NCAA Division I, II, and III men's golf.

Allred joined Cox in signing off on a stellar first season for the Pioneer men's golf team, shooting a five-over-par 77 on Sunday to record a three-round score of two-under par 218 for a share of individual runner-up honors.

Harrison Lane completed his final quest with the Transylvania men's golf team shooting a 77 on Sunday, good for a three-round score of 224, which placed him in 10th on the player leaderboard.

Cox, Allred, and Lane were each named HCAC All-Conference for their exceptional individual performances in the 2021 conference championships.

Jeb Brumley carded a 79 in the final round on Sunday to finish one stroke back of his senior teammate Lane, tallying a three-round score of 225.

Freshman Reed Gritton finished inside the top 20 with his best round of the weekend on Sunday, shooting a three-over-par 75 to finish with a cumulative 229 in taking 18th place among the field.

Cox earned the individual title with a sterling finish on the final five holes, making par on 14 through 16, sinking a birdie on 17, and making par on 18 to certify his first career championship. Cox's day was highlighted by an eagle on the eighth hole followed by a birdie on the ninth hole. After shooting a career-best two-under-par 70 in Friday's first round, Cox produced another standard-bearing performance on Sunday to clinch his first championship.
