Transylvania men’s tennis 2021 postseason ends in HCAC semifinals vs. Rose-Hulman

Nicholasville, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team saw its 2021 season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers in the semifinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Men's Tennis Conference Tournament at Top Seed Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.

Transylvania fell behind early in the match when Nick and Noah McNamee picked up an 8-4 loss to the Rose-Hulman duo of Joseph Conrad and Hart Howard in the No. 1 doubles match.

Arjun Gupta and Jon-Michael Schulte battled the team of Josh Gambiattista and Ian Landwehr tightly before eventually falling by the final count of 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles matchup.

The Fightin' Engineers completed the sweep of doubles play when Hunter Gregg and Jared Wells fell by the count of 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles match.

Trailing Rose-Hulman 3-0, the Pioneers looked to rebound in singles play. However, Schulte fell 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match before Elijah Skaggs surrendered a 6-1, 6-0 result at No. 5 singles to relinquish the 5-0 result to Rose-Hulman.

With the loss, the Pioneers' season comes to an end with a record of 5-6, while the 6-3 Fightin' Engineers will advance to face the Hanover College Panthers in tomorrow's HCAC Championship match.
