Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Transylvania field hockey outbattled by No. 17 Centre in SAA opener on Wednesday

The Transylvania Field Hockey team returned to play in Danville on Wednesday night for its first conference matchup of the 2021 against the No. 17 Centre College Colonels, falling 7-0 at Alumni Field.

Wednesday marked the first career start of freshman goalie Libby Bringard, who entered the matchup coming off of a fantastic performance over the weekend against the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets. Despite the final margin Wednesday, Bringard put forth another promising effort with nine saves over her 60 minutes in goal.

Centre maintained steady control at the game's outset, notching an early goal in the fourth minute of the first quarter. Capitalizing on their early spark, the Colonels held the Pioneers without a shot attempt while collecting four total goals in the first quarter.

The second quarter marked a shift in momentum for the Pioneers with a shot attempt by newcomer Maddi Slaughter. The Pioneer defense held firm after Centre's five goal output in the first half, holding the Colonels to just two goals the rest of the way.

The Pioneers look ahead to their next match on Saturday, September 18 at Earlham in Richmond, Indiana. The Pioneers and Quakers are scheduled to face off at 12 noon at Darrell Beane Stadium.
