Ticket Punched to the Elite Eight for Transy Volleyball

#16 Transy Volleyball advances to the Elite Eight after beating #7 Berry 3-1 in NCAA Regional Final

11/13/2022 11:40:00 AM

Ticket punched: The Pioneers are heading to the first NCAA Elite Eight in program history.

Prior to this season, the furthest the Pioneers had ever made it was the second round of NCAA Regionals. In 2019 at host Emory, they defeated Birmingham-Southern 3-1 in the first round and then played Emory in the second round, losing 1-3.

This year though was a much different story. They defeated Randolph-Macon 3-0. For round two, they pulled off a phenomenal comeback against #5 Emory. The Pioneers went the full five sets for only the second time this year, storming back for three straight sets after starting down two.

For their third round and final game of the regional, the Pioneers faced #7 Berry. For the first ever NCAA Regional Final, #16 Transy Volleyball built upon what they established through the tournament. They made adjustments, they found camaraderie, they left it all on the floor. The selflessness of this team allows for each member to step up at any time and gives them multiple avenues for success. In the final, freshman Izzy Myers led the team with 15 kills and a .406 hitting percentage powering the Pioneers to a come from behind win, something they've only done once in regular season (3-2 Dubuque) and now twice in the regular season. The team effort for 72 total digs (compared to Berry's 62) and 6 service aces also became invaluable in the route to the win.

Senior Karrington Jackson and Sophomore Cate Scheper were named to the Regional All Tournament Team along with Grace Ward who was also named Most Outstanding Player for their performances across all three matches.

"We are heading to the elite 8. We won the regional and we got to win the regional at home! In front of our incredible fans! We can't thank them enough. They were electric! We have really come together as a team and are playing at a high level! I am super super proud. They deserve this so much! Now it's time to see what we are really made of," said Head Coach Amy Barmore.
