This season, Transy Volleyball pushed their program to new heights. They faced top talent throughout the year and had notable wins in the regular reason over #11 Wittenberg and #7 Wash U. In HCAC play, the Pioneers went undefeated 9-0 and then continued their dominance over HCAC opponents in total sets 32-2, followed by two straight set sweeps to win their fourth HCAC Championship.
Following their championship, the Pioneers earned the honor of hosting the NCAA Regional in Lexington. The first round against Randolph-Macon went quickly in 3-0 fashion. Round two meant a matchup with #5 Emory, an opponent they saw in 2019's NCAA Regional round two as well. This time, the matchup saw a new result with the Pioneers putting on a show against the Eagles powering back to win three straight sets under the immense pressure of being down two sets to start. In the finale, the Pioneers downed #7 Berry 3-1 to earn their ticket to the Elite 8.
For the Elite 8, Transy Volleyball traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa. to compete with the seven other best teams in the nation at UMPC Cooper Field House. The teams were re-seeded and Transy earned a number seven seed, facing the number two NYU. In what became the final game of the season, the Pioneers fought point by point for four matches with the Violets of NYU. The first three sets went 25-23 with one in favor of the Pioneers and the final 21-25.
"Unfortunately our historic season has come to an end and it ended earlier than we wanted it to. But I am proud. And I am confident that we will be back. Each level of this tournament takes experience and we are now experienced, myself included. Congrats to our seniors as their journey with us has concluded but what a way to go out! Lastly, I want to say thank you. Thank you to all of the supporters we had the whole season and those who we picked up along the way. Thanks for believing," said Head Coach Amy Barmore.
