Lexington, Ky. – Diana Bruder made her collegiate debut with a hat-trick but the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers dealt the Transylvania women's lacrosse team a 15-6 setback on Friday night at Pat Deacon Stadium.
The 2022 season opener for the Pioneers ushered in a new era under first-year head coach Rachael Bragg as the Pioneers infused three newcomers into their starting lineup on Friday.
The Panthers opened up a 2-0 lead on the night before Linley Dawson put the Pioneers on the board with a transition goal late in the first quarter. Mandi Rider heated up Transylvania's offense in the second quarter with both of her goals on the night, but the Panthers used a run of four straight goals to claim a 9-4 halftime lead.
Bruder caught the scoring baton, notching her first career goal just before halftime and adding two more in the second half to finish with a three-goal evening.
Abi Waldron led the way with 14 saves in goal on the night.
Transylvania is scheduled to return to play on Sunday, February 13 against the Otterbein University Cardinals. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Pat Deacon Stadium.
