Transylvania women's lacrosse defeated by Capital in Columbus

Columbus, Oh. - The Transylvania women's lacrosse team fought against a tough opponent but were defeated on Wednesday night by the Capital University Comets by a final score of 21-10.

The Comets, 6-0 on the season coming into Wednesday's contest, quickly built up a three goal lead in the first quarter before Linley Dawson's unassisted tally broke open the scoring for the Pioneers. The teams fought in a 3-1 deadlock until the Comets scored at the 1:38 mark, however Lindy Walker answered with just 20 seconds left in the quarter to make it a 4-2 score.

To start the second quarter, Capital scored three straight again and went up 7-2, but Transy was able to fight back, with goals from Charlotte Green and Diana Bruder to come within three at the 9:03 mark. For the final nine minutes, Capital found the back of the net twice more and kept Transylvania at bay, going into the half ahead 9-4.

Down by five at the half to the undefeated Comets, the Pios continued to push as Abbey Peterson scored, and just 47 seconds later set up Bruder on her second goal of the night, to make it a 9-6 score. However, Capital scored just over 30 seconds later, and unleashed a run of six unanswered goals in the third quarter. Vianne Koshoffer buried one on another assist from Peterson, making it 15-7 Capital, but they continued to push ahead with two more goals to close out the quarter, with a score of 17-7 in favor of the Comets.

In the fourth quarter Transylvania continued to work and both teams traded goals back and forth in the final frame. Green, Walker, and Peterson all scored their second goals of the night, but the Comets protected their lead and took the game by a final score of 21-10.

With the tough test against the Comets out of the way, Pioneers are back in action at Rhodes College on Sunday, March 20 with a 12:00 noon scheduled start, before returning home on Wednesday, March 23 to take on Allegheny College at Pat Deacon Stadium at 7:00 PM.
