Wilmore, Ky. – The Transylvania women's lacrosse team defeated the Asbury University Eagles in an exhibition by a final score of 21-3 on Saturday. In the high offensive output three Pioneers recorded hat tricks, with two finishing the contest with 5 goals each.
Just 15 seconds into the game,
Charlotte Green got the scoring going for Transy, and
Abbey Peterson buried one afterward to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0 within the first minute.
Diana Bruder added a goal at the 07:38 mark, and Peterson's second on the day came five minutes later. Late in the quarter the Eagles got on the board, and scored the first goal of the second quarter as well, but from there the Pioneers took full control.
The two-goal lead for Transylvania quickly grew exponentially, as in the second and third quarters, they scored 13 unanswered goals.
Vianne Koshoffer started the run with a goal, and
Linley Dawson's tally took advantage of a player up opportunity. Peterson completed the first half hat trick at the 05:18 mark, and added her fourth in the second quarter as well.
Mandi Rider and Dawson also added goals in the second, putting Transy up at the midway point by a score of 10-2.
The Pioneers kept the foot on the gas in the third with early goals from Bruder and
Lindy Walker. Peterson's fifth goal of the contest game at the 11:06 mark of the third, and Rider scored four in the third quarter alone, good for five on the day.
Asbury notched a goal to start the fourth quarter, but a
Charlotte Green goal put Transy ahead 18-3, and Dawson completed the hat trick one minute later. Defenders
Madie Denman and
Abby Rau got into the action on offense with late goals and the Pioneers took the exhibition by a final score of 21-3. First-year
Amara Wagner notched 7 saves and played all 60 minutes in goal.
Next up comes a series of road games for the Pioneers, starting with a Saturday, April 2 contest at Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio with a 3:00 PM scheduled start.
