Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Transylvania women's lacrosse roll as they defeat Anderson, 20-1

Lexington, Ky. - On Saturday afternoon, the Transylvania University women's lacrosse team took on the Anderson Ravens out of Anderson, Indiana. The Pioneers had their eyes set on capturing an inner-conference victory and they did exactly so, in convincing fashion, with a final score of 20-1.

Plenty of Pioneers were a part of the goal scoring explosion on Saturday, as nine different Transy athletes scored. Junior Sophia Sparks was able to net her first goal of the season in the fourth, with just over seven minutes remaining, to close out the scoring on the day for the Pioneers.

The Transylvania women's lacrosse team came out of the gates firing on Saturday, and not once did they let up. After the first quarter the score was 3-1, with two goals coming from Abbey Peterson and one from Linley Dawson. The Pios scored multiple goals in each quarter, the second being their highest scoring period with a total of eight in those fifteen minutes. Peterson was able to net a first half hat trick in the second, while the Pioneers also received goals from six other players. Those players who scored in the second quarter were Abby Rau (2), Charlotte Green, Vianne Koshoffer, Mandi Rider, Lindy Walker, and Diana Bruder

The second half opened up with an unassisted goal from Bruder at the 13:09 mark, followed by a fourth goal for Peterson at the 10:48 mark. Peterson continued to light up the scoreboard with a fifth goal coming under four minutes later at the 7:07 mark in the third period. Walker scored her second of the game, assisted by Rau, with just over four minutes remaining in the quarter. Koshoffer closed out the five score period by a goal with only 15 seconds remaining on the clock to put the Pioneers up big heading into the fourth, 16-1.

Peterson scored her sixth for a hat trick in both halves, within the first minute of the fourth quarter, the assist came from Green. Peterson then notched an assist of her own on a goal from Dawson, her second goal of the game. Green scored off of an assist from Rider with 9 minutes remaining, Sparks then closed out the scoring for the Pioneers to make it 20-1. The Pios' were firing on all cylinders tonight, as they looked like a fiercely competitive team who were ready for the conference tests that stand ahead.

In the goal for the Pioneers, Abi Waldron was a wall of defense. She allowed only one goal to go along with five saves for the evening as she notched the win for the Pioneers.

Next up for the Transylvania women's lacrosse team is Franklin College. The Grizzlies come to town on Saturday, April 23rd for a 1:00 PM match at Pat Deacon Stadium.
