Lexington, Va. -  The Transylvania women's lacrosse team begins the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championships with a first-round matchup against the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents (Presidents' Athletic Conference). The contest will take place Saturday, May 14th at 1:00 p.m., on the campus of Washington & Lee University.

The Pioneers (9-9, 5-0 HCAC) defeated the Hanover College Panthers last weekend to claim the HCAC Championship and the NCAA Tournament automatic bid. This is Transylvania's fourth straight HCAC championship. where they gain another automatic bid from the conference.

The Pioneers will be taking on the Washington & Jefferson Presidents (12-4, 8-0 PAC), in the fifth game between the two teams in history. The matchup is split 2-2 as of now, with the Pioneers taking the most recent tilt in 2018. The first round opener will be played on the campus of Washington & Lee University, where they await the winner of the Pioneers and the Presidents.

Transylvania enters the tournament on a seven game win streak, as they look to carry their momentum from the regular season and the HCAC post-season into this NCAA Tournament.

The Pios are led in total points by the HCAC Offensive Player of the Year, junior attacker Abbey Peterson. Peterson has a total of 50 goals and 19 assists this season, both are team highs. First-Year midfielder Diana Bruder was named the HCAC Newcomer of the Year, as she is a key factor to this team's success on both ends of the field. In goal, junior Abi Waldron has been a steady presence all year as she has kept opposing teams off of the scoreboard. In five regular season conference matches, Waldron allowed a total of just 10 goals and allowed only one goal in three of those outings between the pipes.

On the sideline and behind the scenes, the Pioneers are led by the HCAC Coach of the Year, in her first season with the team, Head Coach Rachael Bragg.
