Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania women's lacrosse team begins the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Tournament on Wednesday, May 4th as the number one overall seed. The team finished the regular season as the champions of the conference and look to carry their momentum forward in the conference tournament. They will take on Earlham College in the HCLC semifinal match at 4:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
The Pioneers finished another undefeated stretch through conference play this 2022 season. They outscored their HCLC opponents by a resounding total of 97-13 and held a record of 5-0 against conference opponents.
The winners of Wednesday's matches, between No. 1 Transylvania & No. 4 Earlham, as well as No. 2 Hanover & No. 3 Franklin, will play each other on Saturday at the highest remaining seed's home field. The official start time for the game is to be determined.
The winner of the HCLC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers won the previous two HCLC Tournament championships in 2019 and 2021, as Covid-19 had canceled the 2020 HCLC season.
This will be Transylvania's second matchup vs Earlham in the last 7 days, as the teams had previously met on April 29th. In that matchup, the Pioneers took the win in Richmond, Indiana by a final score of 18-2.
