RICHMOND, Ind. - Transy Women's Volleyball won their 13th straight matchup to move to 6 and 0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference after sweeping Earlham 25-20, 25-11, and 25-18. Transy survived a first set scare by the Quakers before pulling away after a 16-15 lead.
Kayden Holcomb finished the match with 17 kills. She was one of two pioneers with double-digit kills as
Cate Scheper finished with 10. Six different Pioneers earned kills in the win.
Senior setter
Grace Ward became the all time leader in assists in Transy Volleyball history as she passed assistant coach
Hannah Talkers with her 3,946th assist in the first set. Ward's record breaking assist came from
Jasmine Koonce as Ward then set it to
Cate Scheper to make history. It was Ward's 987th assist of the season. She finished the match with 32.
"To have Grace break this record is something special," Head Coach
Amy Barmore said. "Hannah was the first all American in this program and ran the offense at a high level. When Grace came in, she knew she had big shoes to fill. And she has filled them. She has become the first setter to be a second team All-American, consistently first in the country for assists per set for the last two years, and is on track to be a two time All-American. That has never been done here at Transy. Grace is an outstanding player and her leadership is amazing. I know Grace will say this but she can't do this alone and has amazing teammates and players to help us achieve these awards. Super proud of this team and
Grace Ward."
The win was the 10th all time versus Earlham and kept the Pioneers tied atop of the HCAC standings with Mount St. Joseph.
Transy (21-5, 6-0 HCAC) will face Anderson this Saturday for Alumni Day.
