The Transy Men's Tennis team moved to 1-1 in HCAC play with an 8-1 victory against Franklin today. Due to high winds in the Lexington area, the match was played indoors at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, and the Pioneers used their home court advantage well.
Doubles opened with a bang for Transy, as Arjun Gupta and Chris Kaufmann tallied the first point with an 8-2 win at #1 doubles. Eli Skaggs and Jared Wells followed with an 8-3 win of their own at #3 doubles to give the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage. That lead was sliced in half when Jordan Cordrey and Alejandro Perez Canedo dropped their #2 doubles match 8-4, and Transy entered singles up 2-1.
The singles matches proved to be more of the same for the Pioneers. Perez Canedo was the first to complete their match, winning 6-0, 6-0 at #4. Kaufmann (#1) and Gupta (#2) were the next to polish off wins, and Gupta's win clinched the team match for Transy. They weren't done yet, though, as Wells (#6), Cordrey (#5), and Skaggs (#3) all won their matches in straight sets to complete the 8-1 win.
The Pioneers next take the court on Sunday, April 2 at 1:00 PM against Anderson. That match will take place at the Transy campus courts and will be Senior Day for the class of 2023.
