Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

#17 Transy finishes HCAC/OAC Challenge 2-0, sweeps Otterbein and knocks off #24 Ohio Northern

WESTERVILLE, Oh. - #17 Transy Volleyball improved to 10-5 on the season after earning back to back wins over OAC foes Otterbein and #24 ranked Ohio Northern. The Pioneers swept Otterbein 25-16, 25-21, and 25-22 to move to 4-5 all time vs the Cardinals.

Transy defeated #24 Ohio Northern in four sets, 25-19, 24-26, 25-14, and 25-20. It's the second straight season the Pioneers defeated the Polar Bears and the second time this season Transy has defeated a ranked opponent. TU defeated #7 Washington University (St. Louis) in straight sets last weekend.

Transy dominated Otterbein in all three sets, hitting .325 as a team and finished the match with eight aces, three coming from Grace Ward and two from Megan Sweeney.

Cate Scheper led the team in kills with twelve, and Kayden Holcomb led in blocks with four. Ava Beltsos led in digs with twelve.  Transy held the Cardinals below fourteen kills each set.

Kayden Holcomb came within one kill of tying her career high of nineteen in the win vs #24 Ohio Northern. The junior finished the match with eighteen and the night with twenty four.

Cate Scheper finished the match with thirteen kills and Isabella Myers finished with eight. Grace Ward finished the match with forty-eight assists, her third highest this season.

Transy's back row gave Ohio Northern issues all night. The Polar Bears were held to just a .135 hitting percentage. Ava Beltsos finished the match with eighteen digs. Maggie Harrison finished with ten digs. Holcomb finished with five blocks and Suzanna Klosterman finished with three.

"I am super proud of our overall performance. We hit .325 as a team against Otterbein and .291 against Ohio northern holding each team below .163," Head Coach Amy Barmore said. "All of our hitters stepped up tonight and also had eighteen total team blocks in both matches. Ava held the back row with eighteen digs against Ohio Northern and tweleve against Otterbein. We showed up tonight and played at a high level."

The wins were just what Transy needed. The Pioneers came into the matches off a 1-3 finish in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational last weekend. The Pioneers gain momentum heading into the match with Wittenberg at The Clive M. Beck Center this Wednesday at 6 PM. Transy is looking for their first win over the 2-8 Tigers since 2019.
