LEXINGTON, KY - The Pioneers faced off against the undefeated Wittenberg Tigers last night in a much anticipated NCAC match at Pat Deacon Stadium. The Pioneers were coming off of a big NCAC win last weekend.

The Tigers started the first period off hot with a shot on goal that was saved by Libby Bringard. This led to a penalty corner for Wittenberg. Bringard made her second save of the night before the Pioneers conceded a goal. The goal was scored by Wittenberg's Devyn Groves. After a few tactical saves, the defense for the Pioneers continued to stand tall. Bringard made another huge save to keep the score 1-0 at the end of the first period.

In the second period, Avery Hoover got the Pioneers first shot on goal that was saved. Two minutes later, Bringard made her 4th save of the night. In the 26th minute, a green card was assessed to Maddy Morgan. After another two minutes passed, a green card was assessed to Transylvania's Lucy Cohen. Wittenberg had another penalty corner in the closing minutes of the match that led to two shots, one wide of the frame and one being blocked by the Pioneer defense.

Starting the third period, Transylvania's goalie Libby Bringard made a save to keep the Pioneers down by just one goal, forcing a penalty corner. The Pioneer offense kicked it up a notch in the third period. In the 34th minute Sidney Alridge put a shot on the frame, forcing Wittenberg's keeper to make a save. Two minutes later, Maddi Slaughter had a shot on goal forcing another save. This was followed up by a shot on goal by Maddy Morgan. The Pioneer defense continued to be present in the closing minutes of the third quarter, stopping all three Wittenberg penalty corners.

Three minutes into the fourth period, Wittenberg's shot went wide of the goal. Seconds later, Wittenberg found the back of the net making the score 2-0. The Pioneers continued to apply pressure, forcing two penalty corners in the 49th and 50th minute. Transylvania continued to attack, forcing another set of penalty corners in the final minutes. The corners led to a shot on goal by Maddy Morgan, which was saved by Wittenberg.

The Pioneers are looking forward to their next NCAC matchup against Ohio Northern University on Friday October 11th. The home game kicks off at 4:30 pm at Pat Deacon Stadium.
