LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania's Women's Basketball Alumni Dasia Thornton has recently signed a professional contract overseas in Albania with the Partizani Women's Club. Dasia has written her own story in the record books, and continues to do so by becoming the first Transylvania Women's Basketball player to sign a professional contract.
During Thornton's time at Transylvania, she was one of the most decorated athletes in Transylvania Athletics history. Most recently, Thornton was co-nominated as Division-III Woman of the Year. Thornton played a massive role in Trany's 2023 Women's Basketball National Championship, and was recognized as a Region VIII All-Region 3rd Team Member in 2023 and a First Team All-American in 2024. She was also named a member of the 2022-23 Heartland Conference First Team All-Conference and also named 2023-24 Heartland Conference Player of the Year.
Dasia Thornton was the second player in Transylvania history to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She ended her career at Transylvania second overall in total rebounds and second overall for season rebounds in institutional history.
Thornton joins a highly competitive, Partizani Tirana, based in Tirana, Albania. The team has been an Albanian League Finalist in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Partizani finished as regular season runner ups in the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. In 2021, Partizani won the Albanian Cup. Partizani was Albanian cup finalist in 2020, 2022 and 2023. In 2022, the team finished as Albanian Supercup Winners and in 2023 they were Albanian Supercup Finalists. Most recently, the team reached the Albanian League Semi-Finals in 2024.
