LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University will take on Washington and Lee University on Monday in the final day of action at the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Classic at 1 p.m. Transylvania took on Case Western Reserve on Sunday in the opener of the event, falling to the Spartans 67-53.
The Pioneers overcame a slow start in the first quarter to outscore the Spartans in the second quarter, they trailed by 12 at the half. Transylvania opened the third quarter with a strong offensive start as
Sierra Kemelgor stole the first possession away from the Spartans, finishing the fast break with a lay-up at the basket. Moments later,
Sadie Wurth would knock down a three-point field goal to rally the Pioneers and continue their run. Kemelgor would respond just over thirty seconds later, scoring a long range three-pointer. With just under four minutes remaining in the third period, Wurth would score back to back baskets to cut into a 12 point Pioneer deficit.
Chloe McKnight opened the fourth period scoring at the basket, and after a trip to the free-throw line for
Riley Flinn, McKnight would score again in the post. The Spartans would hold onto their lead, with a three-point field goal at the buzzer from
Grace Bruner finalizing a 67-53 win for Case Western.Â
Transylvania will take on Washington and Lee at 1 p.m. at the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Classic on Monday, with Case Western taking on Concordia in the championship final at 3 p.m. at the Clive M. Beck Center.Â
