CINCINNATI, OHIO - Three Pioneers scored in double figures as the Pioneers defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) opponent Mount St. Joseph 59-39.Â
Sadie Wurth led the Pioneers with 18 points and 12 rebounds while
Sierra Kemelgor (10 points, six rebounds) and
Chloe McKnight (10 points) highlighted the Transylvania offense. The Pioneers carried a six point first half lead into the third quarter before consecutive baskets from
Riley Flinn and
Emilie Teall pushed the lead to ten in the opening minutes of the second half.
Sadie Wurth would respond to an MSJ run with a three-point field goal and jumpshot on back to back possessions to push the lead back to double figures for the Pioneers. Teall's lay up with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter would give the Pioneers a 12 point advantage to end the period. The Pioneers would carry their offensive performance and defensive efforts into the fourth quarter, as
Samantha Cornelison's lay up at the 6:42 mark would extend the lead to 14. Baskets from Wurth, Teall and McKnight would secure the 59-39 victory down the stretch for the Pioneers.Â
