LEXINGTON- The Transy Men's Tennis team dropped a hard fought 6-3 decision at Top Seed Tennis Club. Covenant College's win dropped the Pioneers' record to 2-1.

The first match of the season started with three doubles matches. The Scots struck first with an 8-2 win at #1 doubles. Transy evened the score at 1 with a strong 8-5 win at #2 doubles. The momentum going into singles was on the line as the #3 doubles match went to a tiebreak. Covenant pulled away and went up 2-1 with an 8-7 win.

The singles competition started with three courts. Chris Kaufmann struck first to even the score at 2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #1 singles. Alejandro Perez-Canedo gave the Pioneers a 3-2 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #3. The Scots evened the match at 3 when Eli Skaggs lost a 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 decision at #2 singles.

The match would come down to the matches at 4, 5, and 6 singles. The Pioneers lost all three first sets and responded in the second sets. Jordan Cordrey was defeated at #5 singles 7-6, 6-0 to put the Scots one match away from victory.

Jacob Jiranek and Chase Moreman both responded to dropping their first sets by winning their second sets, and the Pioneers had two third sets with the match on the line. Both third sets were close, but Covenant pulled away in both to clinch the match.

The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, February 4 with a match against Otterbein. First serve is 11:00 AM at Top Seed Tennis Club.
