LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University earned their third straight win Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory over Centre College.Â
In a competitive first set, the Pioneers went on a short run to build a 12-9 lead. Moments later, Transy would extend with another run to take a 17-12 lead that they would not lose. Back to back kills from Centre's Mack Turner would rally a run from Centre, as the Colonels would cut the lead down to two, 20-18. The Pioneers would finish the first set with kills from
Lilly Kaiser and
Addie Atcher to finish the 25-19 score for set one.
In the second set, Centre would build an early 11-6 lead before a Pioneer run would cut the lead to one at 12-11. It was a competitive exchange the rest of the set, with Centre landing short runs to extend their lead. Transy would rally, cutting the lead to 22-20, and eventually tying the Colonels at 24 before a kill from Centre's Ally Knueven would help the Colonels secure the second set, 26-24.Â
In the third set, Transy would build on an early run to take a 10-4 advantage.
Lilly Kaiser and
Mason Morrow would extend the run before Centre would begin to rally. A five point run for the Colonels would give them a 16-15 lead, however Transy would respond to take a 21-19 advantage late. A competitive exchange late led to a tie at 23, but back to back kills from
Cate Scheper and
Kayden Holcomb would give the Pioneers a 25-23 set victory.
In the fourth and final set of the evening, Transy would go on a strong opening run to take a commanding 16-6 advantage. A kill from
Addie Atcher would give Transy a 20-8 lead, followed by another kill from
Isabella Myers.
Cecilia Roberts would score the final point for the Pioneers to take a 25-12 set victory, earning a 3-1 win for Transy.Â
Head Coach Amy Barmore was excited to see her team rally in the atmosphere at the Clive M. Beck Center.Â
"We grew tonight, it was a great atmosphere and we loved every minute of the support from the fans," Barmore said. "We struggled in set two but got back to having fun and rallying around each other. It was a team effort tonight and people stepped up. That's what made it fun."
Up next for the Pioneers is a trip to Mount Berry, Georgia on Friday for matchups with Piedmont University at 3 p.m. and Berry College at 8 p.m. They will close the weekend against Oglethorpe University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Transy returns to the Clive M. Beck Center on Saturday, September 21st, for the Transy Invitational.
