LEXINGTON, KY - Three Pioneers reached double figure scoring in a 69-50 victory over Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) opponent Manchester on Saturday at the Clive M. Beck Center.Â
Transylvania scored on a fast break from
Riley Flinn on the opening tip-off in the first six seconds of the game,
Sadie Wurth followed on the next possession with a three-pointer to take a quick 5-2 lead for the Pioneers.
Keaton Hall scored on a fast break opportunity to take a 14-8 lead into the second quarter. Transylvania opened the second quarter with a three-point field goal from
Sierra Kemelgor to extend their lead. Field goals from
Aubree Littlejohn, Flinn and Kemelgor helped the Pioneers take a double digit lead midway through the quarter, but Reagan Barrett's jump shot led to a Manchester timeout as the Pioneer lead grew to 25-12. Out of the time out, another field goal from Barrett and consecutive baskets from Flinn, including another three-pointer, helped Transylvania extend to their largest lead of the first half. Wurth scored in the final minute to carry a 16 point lead into halftime.Â
Transylvania opened the third quarter with a three-pointer from Kemelgor, a field goal from
Chloe McKnight and another three-pointer from Flinn on a fast break opportunity as Transylvania lead 44-26 in the opening minutes of the third. Kemelgor pushed the Pioneer lead to 21 with another three-point field goal midway through the third, while Hall's field goal in the final seconds of the quarter helped Transylvania carry a 55-34 score into the fourth.
Samantha Cornelison scored twice from three-point territory in the fourth quarter as the Pioneers finished a 69-50 HCAC victory to win their fifth straight and improve to 8-1 in the conference.Â
