HANOVER, IN - The Transylvania Pioneers took on conference opponent Hanover, on Wednesday night. Four Pioneers reached double digit scoring, propelling Transylvania to a huge road victory and an overall record of 5-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The Hanover Panthers started the first quarter very hot, coming out on a 17-4 run. The Pioneers rallied back with a three point field goal by Aubree Littlejohn and a layup by Raegan Barrett to close out the first quarter, 21-13. A Sadie Wurth three pointer cut the lead down to the 10 and began the closing run. Riley Flinn and Makya Grinter tallied five points making the Panthers lead just three possessions. Transylvania's determined offense trimmed the lead to one point, 35-31, going into the half.Â
The third quarter included both teams exchanging baskets, fighting for momentum heading into the final quarter. Sadie Wurth drove to the basket, made the layup, and was fouled on the way up. Her three point play closed out the quarter 48-48. The Pioneers finally took control in the fourth quarter and went on a 10-0 run in the opening four minutes. Barrett had a solo 6-0 run herself, and was assisted by field goals by Chloe McKnight and Kemelgor. The Pioneers closed out the game 73-65, showing a tremendous amount of grit and determination.Â

- Transylvania outscored the Panthers 44-24 with points in the paint and 25-2 on bench points.

"An unbelievable team effort. Our focus all week was to keep Hanover off the boards (+26) and free throw line (+11)." said Head Coach Hannah Varel. "Our dominant post play gave us some easy buckets when we needed it. Most importantly, we found a way to keep our composure after a tough first five minutes during a high intensity road game.".Â
The Pioneers are on the road again on Saturday as they take on Rose-Hulman. Transylvania travels to Terre Haute, Indiana for a 1 pm tipoff.Â
