Pioneers Pick Up Road Victory at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, OHIO - Transylvania Women's Lacrosse picked up a tough road victory at Otterbein on Saturday, 11-9. 

Following an early goal from Otterbein, TaNya Barbee scored first for the Pioneers to tie the score at the 08:55 mark of the first quarter. Otterbein would respond with two goals in the final six minutes of the opening period, with Transylvania trailing 3-1 entering the second. After another early quarter goal from Otterbein, Transylvania would score three goals over a four minute stretch to cut into the deficit. Charlotte Green started the run for the Pioneers with two consecutive goals, one at the 11:12 mark and the second just over a minute and a half later at 09:15. Diana Bruder, assisted by Green, would score the third goal of the run at 07:45. Bruder would score again at 03:00 to tie the score at 5-5, but Otterbein would enter the half with a one point lead after a late goal to end the half. 

Otterbein would start the second half with a 2-0 scoring run, but Transylvania would respond with an impressive six consecutive goals in the fourth quarter to take the lead, and ultimately the victory. Barbee scored again for the Pioneers at 14:01, followed by Bruder at 10:01 and a goal from Avery Kirkhope, assisted by Bruder, at 05:39. In the final five minutes of the fourth quarter, Transylvania would see goals from Presley Helton and two consecutive goals from Barbee to secure the victory, 11-9. 

"What a fight, I love this team and the heart that they play with," said Head Coach Bri McCulley, who earned her first career victory as Head Coach of the Pioneers in the win. "They don't give up and today's win was a full team effort. Everyone stepped up and did their part to pull off this win and it was so fun to be a part of."

Transylvania returns to action on Saturday, March 1st, as they travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Rhodes College at Noon CST.
