LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania rallied back in day two of the 2025 Transy Invite, defeating Wittenberg and the University of Olivet at the Clive M. Beck Center.Â
Game One: Transylvania 3, Wittenberg 1
After falling in the first set, Transylvania stormed back to win three consecutive sets to defeat Wittenberg in the first game of the afternoon for the Pioneers. In set two, a 25-23 victory, the Pioneers closed with kills from
Clara Rogers and
Isabella Myers. Transylvania would carry their offense into the third set, opening on an 8-3 run. Wittenberg would rally to take the lead at 17-13, but the Pioneers would respond with a 6-0 run to take a 19-17 advantage behind three kills from Myers. With a tied score of 21-21, Transylvania would score four consecutive points to close the set with a 25-21 set victory. In set four, the Pioneers found themselves leading 14-12 before a five point run from Wittenberg put the Pioneers back in a deficit. Transylvania wouldn't fall however, as the Pioneers scored seven consecutive points, including two kills from
Addie Atcher to take a 23-19 lead. A kill from Myers would secure the victory in the set at 25-22, with the Pioneers claiming the 3-1 win.Â
Myers led the Pioneers with 16 kills, followed by 14 from
Cecelia Roberts and 11 from Atcher.
Macy Lentz recorded 41 assists in the win,
Julia Brown led the team in digs with 24.Â
Game Two: Transylvania 3, University of Olivet 0Â
The Pioneers offense was on full display in the second match up of the afternoon, opening set one with a 6-1 run. Transylvania utilized a 7-0 run to take a strong 16-8 advantage. They closed the first set with a 7-1 run to claim a 25-15 set one victory. The Pioneers opened the second set with an 8-1 run behind four consecutive kills from Myers. Transylvania won the second set 25-13. A competitive third set was claimed with a victory clinching kill from Roberts, earning the 25-20 set win and the 3-0 victory.Â
Myers led the Pioneers with 17 kills, followed by seven from Atcher and five from Roberts. Lentz added 22 assists, Brown led with 12 digs.Â
"Yesterday was a tough challenge for us, but we fought back today and showed some resilience," said Head Coach Amy Barmore. "Earning two strong victories against the competition we faced today shows a lot about our team's ability to adapt and improve. We learned a lot about ourselves in these opening games, we're excited to get back to work and prepare for Covenant."
