Pioneers Fall Short On The Road At Centre

DANVILLE, KY - Transylvania was outlasted on the road at Centre on Wednesday, falling to the Colonels 3-1 in Danville. 

In the opening set, Transylvania found themselves trailing 0-3 early, but began to battle back, taking a 5-4 lead from an Isabella Myers kill, but Centre would respond with a 9-1 run to take a 13-6 advantage. The Pioneers would rally, tying the Colonels late in the first set at 20-20 via an ace from Myers, but Centre would close the first set with three consecutive points for a 25-22 opening set win. 

Transylvania would open the second set with a competitive exchange, battling with the Colonels to build momentum. Consecutive kills from Myers and Clara Rogers would give the Pioneers an 11-8 lead. After exchanging runs with Centre, Transylvania rattled off four consecutive points to take the 21-14 advantage, a run that saw two kills from Addie Atcher and an ace from Macy Lentz. The Pioneers would close the set on a 4-0 run, the final point coming from an Alex O' Conner ace, to take the 25-17 set two victory for Transylvania. 

In set three, both teams struggled to build an advantage, exchanging brief runs. Late in the set, a block from Peyton Mast and Cecelia Roberts gave the Pioneers a 20-18 lead, but the Colonels responded with a 3-0 run of their own to regain the advantage. Myers would score another kill to tie things late at 21-21, but the Colonels would close the third set with four consecutive points to take set three, 25-21.

The Pioneers opened the fourth set on a 5-1 run. featuring two kills from Myers and one from Mast. A six point run from the Colonels led to Centre regaining the lead at 13-8, but the Pioneers would continue to respond, cutting the deficit to three after another kill from Myers. Trailing 19-17, Atcher would send the ball across the net for another kill, putting Transylvania within reach at 19-17, but Centre would respond with a 5-1 run. Atcher and Myers would score consecutive kills late, but Centre would ultimately hold on for a 25-20 set four victory. 

Myers led the Pioneers with 19 kills, followed by 14 from Atcher. Lentz once again led the Pioneers in assists, recording 43. Alex O' Conner (13) and Julia Brown (11) led Transylvania in digs. 

Transylvania will have an opportunity to respond on Friday, September 12th, as they travel to Springfield for a match up with Baldwin Wallace at 7:00 p.m.
