DANVILLE, KY - This Saturday, the Pioneers traveled to compete at the Centre Invite. Despite windy conditions and a strong sun, the Pioneers competed hard and delivered impressive results. With conference approaching, this meet served as a valuable opportunity to fine-tune every aspect of the team. Highlights from the meet include:
Ella Detjen broke the school record in the 1500m, finishing second overall with a time of 4:53.79.
Hayden Scott had an outstanding day in the throws. Showing patience and trusting his technique, he recorded multiple personal bests and set a new school record in the shot put with a mark of 13.81m, while also throwing 41.50m in the hammer.
The Women's 4x400m relay team—Jatajza Pinkney, Hannah Cox, Peyton Tan, and Olivia Sparks—ran 4:00.98, setting a new school record and moving to 4th all-time in the HCAC.
Jatajza Pinkney made her 400m hurdles debut, finishing in 1:08.06. Her time ranks 3rd all-time in Transylvania history and 2nd in the HCAC.
The men's 4x100m relay team—Markeius Hill, Trevor Bush, Trace Morris, and Ayden Jackson—clocked 43.73, ranking 3rd in the HCAC and 2nd all-time in school history.
Xander Harris stepped down in distance and won his heat in the 400m with a personal-best time of 52.75.
Following the meet, throws coach Graham Smith shared his thoughts: "I think we as a group are doing really well—our practice sessions are starting to translate into meet-day results."
Next weekend, the team will split to compete at two meets. A select group will travel to Cleveland, Tennessee for the Lee Fast Break Athletics Invitational meet on Friday, while the rest of the squad will head to Northern Kentucky University for the Norse Invitational.Â
