SEWANEE, TN – Transylvania University opened the 2026 season Friday afternoon at Juhan Gymnasium, falling to Rhodes College in three sets, 25-13, 26-24, 25-21 in their opening match up of the Sewanee Invitational.
After Rhodes took the opening set 25-13, Transylvania responded with a strong effort in the second. The two sides battled through eight ties and five lead changes before the Lynx narrowly escaped with a 26-24 victory to take a 2-0 advantage in the match. The Pioneers continued to battle in the third, turning in their best offensive set of the afternoon. Transylvania recorded 10 kills while hitting .154, but Rhodes countered with 13 kills and a .281 hitting percentage to close out the match, 25-21.
Addie Atcher paced the Transylvania attack with a team-high nine kills, while
Peyton Mast added four.
Cecelia Roberts finished with three kills on seven swings for a team-best .286 hitting percentage and added a service ace.
Chloe Jensen contributed three kills and two solo blocks.
Addison Davis handed out a team-high 12 assists while adding two service aces and six digs.
Julia Brown recorded a team-high nine digs and two aces, while
Soleil Sabin added seven digs. Transylvania finished the afternoon with six service aces.
Transylvania will return to the court this afternoon to take on North Park University in its second match of the day at the Sewanee Invitational.
