SEWANEE, TN. – Transylvania closed out the Sewanee Invitational Saturday afternoon with a four-set victory over host Sewanee, winning 25-22, 25-27, 25-19, 25-18 at Juhan Gymnasium. The Pioneers improved to 2-2 on the season, while Sewanee moved to 1-3.
Transylvania opened the match with a 25-22 victory before Sewanee responded in a tightly contested second set. The two sides battled through 10 ties and four lead changes before the Tigers took the frame 27-25 to even the match at one set apiece. The Pioneers regained control in the third, hitting .346 with 12 kills on their way to a 25-19 victory. Transylvania then delivered in the fourth, recording 15 kills with just one attack error on 27 attempts for a .519 hitting percentage to close out the match, 25-18.
Addie Atcher led the Transylvania attack with a match-high 19 kills while hitting .341 and adding four block assists. Payton Avilez added 11 kills on a .280 hitting percentage, while Peyton Mast finished with 10 kills and hit .333. Cecelia Roberts added six kills while hitting .417.
Chloe Jensen finished with four kills on six attempts without an error for a .667 hitting percentage and added a match-high five block assists. Addison Davis directed the Pioneer offense with a match-high 26 assists while adding nine digs, three kills and a service ace. Erin Thomas added 16 assists.
Julia Brown led the defensive effort with a match-high 18 digs while also recording a match-high four service aces. Megan Helander added three aces as Transylvania finished with nine service aces and 14 block assists.
Transylvania finished the match with 55 kills and a .341 hitting percentage, holding Sewanee to 42 kills and a .165 hitting percentage. The Pioneers committed just 13 attack errors across four sets and finished the match with 72 points.
Transylvania finishes its opening weekend at the Sewanee Invitational with a 2-2 record. Transylvania returns to action for the 2026 Transy Invite at the Clive M.
