Transylvania Baseball to face Thomas More University at Whitaker Bank Ballpark for three-game series this weekend

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania baseball team will welcome the Thomas More University Saints to Lexington this weekend, Friday, March 22 – Saturday, March 23 for a three-game series at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, the minor league ballpark home of the Class-A Lexington Legends in the "Battle of the Bluegrass."

The Pioneers will square off with an NCAA Division III opponent at Whitaker Bank Ballpark for the second consecutive year and fourth time over the past five seasons as they commence the weekend series on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

This weekend's series marks the first meeting between the Pioneers and Saints since March 27, 2014 when the Saints won in a single game at Marquard Field, 5-2.

This weekend's series marks a return to Whitaker Bank Ballpark for the second straight year for the Pioneers after Transylvania hosted Otterbein at the minor league ballpark on April 12, 2018 for a Friday night single game. This weekend's series also serves as the first time the Pioneers have played a multi-game series at Whitaker Bank Ballpark since 2016 when the Pioneers hosted Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance College in a three-game series.

Friday evening's game will feature an evening full of in-game entertainment between innings and recognition of 2018-19 Transylvania athletic teams and their individual and team achievements. Transylvania's faculty and staff will also be recognized during Friday night's marquee contest.

Transylvania carries a 6-9 overall record into the weekend series and takes on Thomas More, which enters the weekend with a record of 5-8. Transylvania is led by sophomore catcher Michael Blair, the reigning HCAC Hitter of the Week, junior outfielder Riley Willbur (.408 on-base percentage, 10 RBI), and sophomore infielder Hudson Chastain (26 hits, .406 batting average), and pitchers Collin Johnson (24 IP, 1.88 ERA) and Jake Schmidt (2.70 ERA, 17 K's).

Admission for each day is $6 for adults, $4 for students ages 5-17, and $4 for seniors ages 65 and above. Children ages 4 and under are admitted for free. Admission is also free for Transylvania faculty, staff, and students with a valid Crimson Card ID at the ballpark gates on Friday and Saturday. Doors for Friday's game open at 6:00 p.m.

Constructed in 2001, Whitaker Bank Ballpark is the home of the Lexington Legends Single-A minor league baseball team. With a capacity of 6.994, the stadium sits along North Broadway between downtown Lexington and I-75. The ballpark is located 1.5 miles north of Transylvania University and serves primarily as the home of the minor league baseball team and is also used as a venue for concerts, community events, and sporting events.
