RICHMOND, Ind.—Four second half goals were too much for the Transylvania University field hockey team as they lost to the homestanding Earlham College Quakers 4-0 on Saturday.
Saturday marked the first game of the season for the Pioneers but the team showed signs of improvement from last season.
The Pioneers held the Quakers scoreless in the first half and took two shots of their own but were unable to find the back of the net as the teams entered the intermission tied at zero.
In the second half, the depth of Earlham paid dividends as they were able to outlast Transy, pocketing four goals in the closing 35 minutes. As in the first half, Transylvania threatened and challenged the Quaker defense but were unable to beat the goalkeeper and score.
Transylvania returns to the field next Saturday in their home- and Southern Athletic Association opener against Sewanee.
