MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Warm and humid conditions and a deep Rhodes College lineup were too much to overcome on Saturday afternoon as the Transylvania University field hockey team fell to the homestanding Lynx, 11-0.
The Pioneers fell behind early on a third minute goal from Rhodes and were never able to claw their way back into the match as the Lynx scored two more goals in the next six minutes to take a 3-0 ten minutes into the opening period.
Transylvania's defense stiffened up for a stretch in the middle of the first half, allowing just one goal during a 16-minute span but Rhodes' steady flow of substitutions and fresh legs allowed them to wear down Transy and score several more goals in the closing minutes of the half to take a 7-0 lead into the intermission.
The second half was stronger for the Pioneers as their defense tightened up and the offense pressed forward, creating goof looks at the goal, putting four shots on goal; quality goalkeeping from the Lynx kept Transy out of the net however as Transylvania was unable to score.
The Pioneers return to action tomorrow at Hendrix College. That game is scheduled to begin at 12:00pm.
