DANVILLE, Ky.—Transylvania University's field hockey team dropped a road contest with in-state and Southern Athletic Association rival Centre College on Wednesday, 7-1. The Pioneers fell behind early and were unable to surmount the deficit established in the early minutes of the contest.
Centre opened with a goal in the 4th minute and continued to build on their advantage as the first half continued, adding three more goals in the next 30 minutes of play to take a 4-0 lead into the locker room.
Out of the half, Transylvania held tight on defense, limiting scoring opportunities and shots on goal for the Colonels but the pressure from Centre ultimately paid off with goals in the 53rd, 64th and 65th minutes to build their lead to 7-0.
Senior midfielder Faye Katz cut into the lead at the 66:17 mark with her first goal of the season to make the score 7-1, but it was too little too late as the Pioneers failed to mount a comeback.
Transylvania continues with their six-game road trip at Ferrum on Sunday at 1:00pm.
