LEXINGTON, Ky.—In their final regular season match of the season, the Transylvania University field hockey team fell to the visiting Rhodes College Lynx, 5-0 at Pat Deacon Stadium.
The Lynx featured a deep and veteran-heavy roster, which gave the Pioneers fits throughout the contest. Transy's defense warded off a hard charging Rhodes attack in the early going of the game with goalkeeper Allyson Benz recording several quality saves in the opening minutes, but the steady pressure from the Lynx proved to be too much as they broke into the scoring column in the ninth minute. Rhodes would score again in the 12th minute to take a two-goal advantage, which they would carry into the locker room.
Out of the intermissions, Transylvania was unable to contend with the fresh legs of Rhodes, who scored three goals in the second half, including a goal as time expired, to hand the Pioneers the loss.
Benz continued to impress during her freshman season, recording 10 saves on 13 shots on goal in the contest in just under 60 minutes of time in the cage. Offensively, Transy put all three of their shot attempts on target. Midfielders Faye Katz and Jessica Chandler took one and two shots respectively.
The Pioneers will travel to Memphis, Tenn. for the Southern Athletic Association conference tournament on Friday. They will take on Hendrix College in a rematch of their double-overtime loss yesterday.
