Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania field hockey team celebrated Senior Night in style, as it defeated the visiting Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 5-1 at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Pioneers were led on offense by freshman midfielder Taylor Insley, who accounted for two goals and an assist in the game.
The game got off to a quick start for the Pioneers as Insley scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute of action.
Transylvania's second goal came from senior forward Jessie Wilson by way of freshman defender Emma Uhls's pass with five minutes remaining in the half. Just minutes later, the Pioneers would pad their lead even more when Insley score the third goal of the day just seconds before halftime.
Eight minutes into the second half, the Transylvania attack would strike again as junior midfielder Jessica Chandle scored a goal off of a nifty setup pass from Insley, rasing the lead to 4-0.
With the Pioneer's advantage growing to four goals, the Falcons found their offensive touch and put a shot into the back of the net.
However, just four minutes later, freshman forward Scout Gibson capped off the Transylvania scoring with a score of her own. Gibson's goal came off of a beautiful pass from sophomore midfielder Alyson Bergman. Gibson's goal signed off on the game's final score, establishing the 5-1 final.
Goalkeeper Allyson Benz turned in another solid effort for the Pioneers as she recorded seven saves in the game while only giving up one goal.
Next up, the Pioneers will return to Southern Athletic Association league play as they take on the Sewanee Tigers. The game is set for a 2:00 p.m. start from Puett Field on Saturday, October 29.
