Memphis, Tenn. – The Transylvania field hockey team struggled on offense en route to a 9-0 loss to the Rhodes College Lynx at Mason Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Pioneers' record drops to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in Southern Athletic Association play while Rhodes improves to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in the SAA.
The Lynx dominated the Pioneers throughout the day, posting a 20-0 advantage in penalty corners. Rhodes also outshot Transylvania 33-0 in the game.
Rhodes jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Then, in the 20th minute, the Lynx added another score to secure a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Rhodes exploded on offense to the tune of six unanswered goals to push the final score to 9-0 in favor of the Lynx.
Goalkeeper Allyson Benz turned in another strong performance in goal for the Pioneers. The senior tallied 17 saves over 70 minutes of action in the loss.
The Pioneers now face a quick turnaround as they will travel to Conway, Arkansas for a game against the Hendrix College Warriors tomorrow afternoon. The game is set for a 12:00 p.m. start at the Warrior Turf Field.
