Lexington, Ky. – Transylvania field hockey head coach Katie Hastings has appointed Clara Bissell as assistant coach for the Pioneer field hockey staff, Hastings announced on Monday.

Bissell, who currently is entering her second season with the Transylvania women's lacrosse program, will also serve as the lead assistant coach for the Pioneers field hockey team ahead of the 2019 season.

"I am very excited to have Clara joining us for this season," commented Hastings. "I've seen the success she's helped contribute to the Transy women's lacrosse team and I am confident her coaching experience and expertise will translate onto the field hockey pitch as well."

"It's so exciting to be joining Coach Hastings in continuing to build the culture and legacy of Transylvania field hockey," added Bissell. "Our Pioneers are incredible students of character and athletic talent, and I can't wait to get started with this program."

Bissell debuts in her field hockey assistant coaching assignment along with Hastings, who begins her first season at the helm of the Transylvania field hockey team. Hastings was named the head field hockey coach for Transylvania in January 2019, coming to Lexington from her alma mater, Salisbury University in Maryland where she served with the Sea Gulls coaching staff after an illustrious playing career.

In her first season with the Transylvania women's lacrosse team, Bissell helped elevate the Pioneers to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance along with their second straight conference regular-season and tournament championships.

Bissell will now aim to apply her coaching successes to the Pioneers' field hockey team in the fall season along with her continuing duties as the assistant coach for the Transylvania women's lacrosse program.

"I've had the opportunity to work with Clara over the last few months and I believe she will be a great addition to the team and will complement our new team vision and goals for the program," Hastings added. "We're really looking forward to what we will accomplish this season and I know Clara will be able to contribute to the team's success on and off the field."

Hastings, Bissell, and the Pioneer field hockey team officially begin their new era together on Friday, August 30 with a road contest at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland.
