TERRA HAUTE, Ind. --- The Pioneers Men's Basketball team took the floor against Rose-Hulman in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. Transylvania looked to gain a solid foothold in the HCAC as the bulk of the conference schedule lies ahead in the coming weeks.
Transylvania would sprint out to a 7-0 lead to open the contest and over the next eight minutes would battle against a stout Engineer press to move forward in the opening minutes. Rose-Hulman would battle back to tie the game at 14-14 with twelve minutes in the first period. The teams would battle back and forth over the remainder of the period, neither gaining an advantage until the Engineers hit a pair of three-point baskets to push their lead to six points. Freshman Bo Schuh would pour in 13 points while grabbing three rebounds. Cooper Theobald would add six points to the first half totals. The Pioneers would chip away, but could get no closer than five as the first half ended.
The second half would be relatively even until the Engineers used a 15-5 run to provide a comfortable gap for their offense. Despite great efforts by Theobald in the half chipping in 11 points, and Parker Stansberry adding 7, the Pioneers could not pull closer than five points in the half. The Engineers used a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line to keep any Transylvania run short. This effort would result in the final score for the contest of 72-63.
The Pioneers were led in scoring by Cooper Theobald with 17 and Bo Schuh at 13. Parker Stansberry would round out the double-digit scorers with 10. Robert Dence would grab 7 rebounds in the contest. The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, January 6th as they travel to Earlham College. Start time is 7:30p.m.
